About Monsoon Spice

Monsoon, just the word is enough to bring back a flood of fresh and drenched memories of magical monsoon rain; the sound, sights and smell of home. For a girl born and brought up in southern India the magical word Monsoon evokes feeling of happiness to me. So when it came to naming my blog I couldn’t think of any better name than Monsoon Spice.

Monsoon Spice is my playground where I showcase my passion for food and cooking. Most of the recipes presented here are something which I learnt from my Amma, my first teacher who thought me about life and spice. You will find a collection of everyday meals, some with fancy ingredients, mostly Indian cuisine and also with little international touch; variety is the spice of life. My best friend and husband Krish is the main source of inspiration behind this blog who not only eats what I cook in the name of cooking but also is my food critic and Sous chef.

One thing I have learnt from my ‘almost’ two years of kitchen adventure is learning how to balance and harmonize flavours. For any cook, amateur or experienced, it is important to make adjustments in the quantity of ingredients used to bring out the right flavour of that ingredients to suit your taste buds rather than blindly following the given recipes religiously. Recipes given in Monsoon Spice should serve as guidelines as they cannot speak for your taste preference or the variance in the ingredients you get from different places. Rather following the cooking instructions, follow your instinct and palate as it is these two which tells one what you like in a particular dish, a hint of this a dash of that which creates a perfect harmony between flavour, aroma and the complete satisfaction of creating something which your loved ones enjoy. Play around with the ingredients until you get the right combination of flavours which are most suited to your palate.

Thank you for stopping by at my corner. Take your own sweet time to browse around and leave your feedback as how I can make Monsoon Spice more interesting space for you.

Cheers
Sia

I was wondering if you would help me. I've just set up a blog. And by just I mean, just this morning. It requires people to contribute to make it work, the premise is simple.

My childhood mealtimes were often seasoned with tears and tantrums (and not always from us kids). But the biggest tragedy is that I have no family recipes to hand down. So can I'm looking for geninue family recipes from other peoples'.

I’ll give them a go and post the results. Hopefully immortalising a world of family mealtimes for everyone to share.

If this appeals can you send me a genuine recipe from your family and can you please publicise the site on your blog.

If people don't feed it the site will just die. You can check it out here

Many thanks
